Sequoia DC

Chris and I have always heard great things about the buffet-style brunch at Sequoia (available on Sundays), but finally had a chance to see for ourselves. Already familiar with the popular, Farmers Fishers Bakers, next door, we knew we’d be in for a treat with a front row seat view of the Georgetown Waterfront.

Immediately when we walked in, the floor-to-ceiling views captured our attention drawing us to the outdoor terrace (our preference given the perfect weather). Along the way, it was like every detail was covered, fresh flowers on each table, perfect placement of the mini desserts lining the bar (made in-house), and more.

Seated at the edge of the terrace where we could take in more of the view, we quickly felt relaxed and taken care of. Unlike other well-known brunch spots in the area, the indoor seating and outdoor terrace wasn’t overly crowded from beginning to end which we appreciated. Our reservation was for 10am (right when they opened) – the way to go if you want to beat the rush. As for the service, it was one of the best Chris and I have experienced. Nathan and Sergio were phenomenal and didn’t miss a beat! They were welcoming, engaging throughout, and invested in creating the best experience for each guest. Nathan even introduced us to an amazing blueberry mojito that was light and refreshing (a must try).

The buffet, although a bit pricey compared to other brunch spots we’ve been to, has a little something for everyone – those who prefer the heartier traditional options (like Chris) to those who want to keep it light (like me), not to mention the bottomless cocktails included. There’s also something for the seafood lovers (like both of us) which is no surprise given the waterfront location. Among our favorites were the crab cake, sushi, waffle, potato hash, and just about every mini dessert they had, especially the crème brûlée. We were told the menu changes every week, so we’re looking forward to another outing here whether brunch, lunch or dinner.

Besides the great food and exceptional service, what Chris and I enjoyed most is the quietness of the terrace while watching other couples enjoy their experiences, listening to some oldies but goodies playing from a neighboring restaurant, and watching the many kayakers and paddleboarders on the Potomac that morning. Needless to say, we’ve become instant fans of Sequoia and will be back soon – we have more dishes to try!
